Get to know Sarah ...

Sarah Sangermano, the founder and owner of Waves of Hope RI, is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW),  with nearly 15 years of experience serving individuals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Hello and welcome! My journey to help others began at a young age; although like others, we don't always recognize our destiny until it has been woven by the hands of time.  I experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) which led me to seek enrichment in my life from a young age-making the most of life as each day is a gift with those we care for and there is so much to live for. If you are someone who wants a therapist that can identify with overcoming hardships, I offer a relatable approach, including identifying as a neurodiverse individual. Though life hasn't been easy, I've learned it's possible to overcome and achieve success and joy.

As an innate helper and avid student, I attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY receiving a Bachelors in Psychology in 2008 and in 2010, earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Mental Health.

For a decade, I worked in Massachusetts and Rhode Island at mental health agencies offering community support and providing in-depth assessment and treatment planning for oppressed individuals with chronic mental health conditions. I also supervised interns and trained new clinicians, reflecting my love to learn and teach.

With a desire to provide counseling to others, I gained significant experience in a growing group private practice located in MA October 2018-April 2022, meeting with adults of all ages experiencing adjustment concerns, anxiety and depression to assist them with processing difficulties and provide strength-based psychoeducation to develop coping skills.

Most recently, I have established Waves of Hope RI with the intention to offer an inclusive, affirming, holistic and creative wellness space to those seeking a place to build meaning and find restoration from daily stress and other difficulties experienced.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my infant son and husband. I  also use solitude in nature as a restorative approach through connecting with nature and beachcombing on the New England coastline. I also enjoy writing, reading, listening to podcasts, photography, acrylic painting and mixed media art.
