Will therapy help me?
Many people find that taking the time to engage in therapeutic work is valuable and uplifting. If this is your first time in therapy and you don't know what to expect, allow yourself time to get to know the process and release the pressure you may have put on yourself. Therapy is a learning collaboration for both the therapist and the individual. It is a secure space for you to share openly. Some complex life issues can require an indefinite amount of sessions to process; some feel they only need therapy a short time; others find they like the routine therapy provides and prefer having a confidential space to discuss aspects of their life.
In the case that we determine you have a need that is outside of Waves of Hope RI's scope of practice or you feel the approach is not a good fit, Waves of Hope RI will assist you with finding local resources to ensure you can continue your therapy journey as you seek what is best for your individual needs.
What should I expect in a telehealth session?
Upon making your session and through appointment reminders, you will be provided with a secure telehealth link by email to the Simple Practice Platform at your scheduled time. In the case that there is a connectivity issue, another secure telehealth platform will be used.
Sessions work best when you have a strong internet connection and you are comfortably seated with minimal movement for the session in a confidential space.
Your first session is 60 minutes long; additional follow-up sessions are 45 minutes long.
During your sessions, we will take time to discuss what may be weighing heavily on your mind and explore resources and tools that are applicable to your needs. You will be provided periodically with information through secure messaging so you can access the techniques outside of the session.
